Will someone explain to me why ASA wants service_date_from in the group by
clause...

Select
[OSMRI_referring_doctor].[last_name],
[OSMRI_referring_doctor].[first_name],
[OSMRI_CHARGES].[referring_doctor],
SUM(fee) as a
From
[OSMRI_referring_doctor]
inner join
[OSMRI_CHARGES] on [OSMRI_referring_doctor].[referring_id] =
[OSMRI_CHARGES].[referring_doctor]
Where
[OSMRI_CHARGES].[service_date_from]>=@service_date_from
and
[OSMRI_CHARGES].[service_date_from]<=@service_date_from
Group By
[OSMRI_referring_doctor].[last_name],
[OSMRI_referring_doctor].[first_name],
[OSMRI_CHARGES].[referring_doctor]

What version and build number?

I don't see any obvious reason why the engine would require you to
include the "service_date_from" column in the group by.
