running jConnect 2.1 trial edition on nt4.0 running ms web server and
accessing sybase system 10 on a separate nt server...

when i run the sample ap using the browser on the web server (ie 3.0) the
applet loads fast and the sample query returns results very quickly only if
the proxy object is defined as localhost:8000.

when i change the proxy to the ip address of the httpd server(x.x.x.x:8000)
which is installed on the web server the browser on the web server opens
the applet okay but the sql execution is very slow.

using either rmethod from a separate client machine running win95 using ie
3.2 the html and applet take forever to open. once loaded and query
executed, the system just dies, sits there, kaplooey, blech!

ideas/thoughts please...

would appreciate also posting replies to secondary email at
jeff_kusner@compuserve.com in addition to newsgroup reply.

thanks
jeff

I am not quite sure why you would see any difference with
localhost if you are using the current download as the
applet (the source is %JDBC_HOME%/applet/Isql.java now does:

}
if (proxy != null)
{
if (proxy.indexOf("localhost") >= 0)
{
// the sample applet's gateway.html initially contains
// localhost:8000 as a proxy -- if you run the applet
// from ANY OTHER machine except the one which our
// HTTP/JDBC Gateway (httpd.sh or httpd.bat) is on,
// then localhost make no sense. Assume that this
// applet was just downloaded from that Gateway, and
// that we really just want to connect back to that
// same gateway.
host = getCodeBase().getHost();
int iPort = getCodeBase().getPort();
proxy = host + ":" + iPort;
}

info.put("proxy", proxy);

As far as the crashing, What happens via netscape? I don't use IE
that often, but I have not seen any issues using the MS server
and the cascade webserver(for proxy) as you describe.
