I have an SQL Server 11 running on an NT platform. A client NT (on another
network) is attempting to ping the DBMS (sybping) through the internet and
is receiving error 10051. I assume this error is: Unable to connect to
server. There is a firewall on the client machines end. I can ftp and
http to the server machine through this firewall so I'm not really sure if
it is an issue or not. The sql.ini file on the client machine was taken
from another client machine (at a differant physical location). That
client can sybping and connect to the server dbms fine. Ideas would be
appreciated! Thanks.

Greetings, Rob.

Sounds like the client's firewall is not allowed to pass
TDS packets through it... You might look into what brand
is being used, and contact the vendor to see if there's any
changes that can be made. We do have alliances with most
of the major vendors.

Cheers!
