I don't recall having the problem with version 11.5.1, but since we have
upgraded our customers to 12.0.1 with ebf 9277, I have had a couple of
instances where I cannot dump the transaction log in a particular database
even though the process is no longer active. I do a select in syslogshold,
and can see a process associated with my database but it has an spid of 0.
If I stop and start the ASE the database never comes back online, and there
are no error messages. Why do I have problems dumping the transaction log
in 12.0.1? are there any issues addressed by later EBF's that will correct
this?

thanks,
steve

One other thing: when I look in syslogshold I see the following name as a
process that is keeping me from dumpint the transaction log.

$replication_truncation_point
the spid is zero so I can't kill it.

what is that process and why does it keep returning.

This isn't really a process, it is a pointer to a page in the log that is
maintained by ASE
if any objects in the database have been set up for replication. The
Replication Agent /
Log Transfer Manager performs replication by copying log records from the
transaction
log that affect any replicated object. This truncation point marker is moved
forward as
the log records are sent to the replication server. If something in the
replication environment
goes down so that records cannot be transfered, the truncation point stops
moving forward.

So, if your database is supposed to be involved in replication, contact whoever
is in
charge of the replication and have them determine the problem.

If your database is not supposed to be involved in replication, then it somehow
has gotten
the idea that it is (a common reason is loading a dump of a replicated db to a
test box that
is not replicated; the db still thinks it is being replicated). You can easily
tell ASE to turn off
the replication by using the database in question and issueing "dbcc
settrunc(ltm, ignore)".
