Hi,

I'm using high color icons for my toolbars (in PB7). It works well but, on
some customers installation, and on some client workstation only, my icons
are changing with red cross ....

In all cases, the system is Windows XP and the screen is configured for high
color resolution.

What is happening ? Why does it works most of time but not everywhere ?

Thanks

some restrictions exist for icons, i believe you can only use 16x16 (x16
colours) in PB till PB10 or so (google these groups for more on this).

No, I'm sorry but my high color 16x16 icons works on 99% of the
installations ... (and it's very nice)

There is only some 'context' where these are not displayed .... and I see no
difference of implementation in theses cases ...

No, PB 10.5 will be the first (remember that high colour icon
specifications are much greater today than in PB 7s time frame).

Then, the fact that it works with PB7 is a bug ?

Now, to address the OP's original concern:
The red 'X' is what PB displays if it can't find the resource that it's supposed
to display. Your icons aren't getting compiled into your application executable,
so you have to deploy the .ICO files themselves. If you reference those files by
absolute path ("C:\app\resources\pretty.ico") and the customer doesn't put them
into that specific directory, PB won't find the files and show the red 'X'.
Another possibility is that the install is *trying* to put the files in the
right place, but security issues are preventing the user from writing those
files.

Probably the "best" solution would be to include the .ICO files in a PBR
resource file that you use when you compile. Make sure your reference in the PBR
file and your reference in your code are *exactly* the same. That will compile
the resource (icon) into your executable and PB will always be able to use it.

That's what I done .. The icons are in the executable and are displayed on
near all installations. There is less than 1% of customers with this problem
(and the same executable than the others 99%)
