Hi!

I have to load a database dump with isql. When I enter "load database ..."
in isql it tells me that the database is in use and I need to have
exclusive use to load the dump. I am running ASE 11.5 on a notebook for
testing and nobody is connected to the database.

How can i set exclusive use for the database? Please, any hint is welcome.

Thanks.

That's it. your are in the database.
For beeing sure there is no one ine the DB, close all the connection to the
server.
Create a file with the sql lines :

load database <YOUR DB>
from <YOUR_DUMP>
[stripe on <SECOND STRIPE IF THERE IS A ONE> ]
...
go

open a terminal (Unix) or A mommand shell (DOS) and type :

isql -Usa -S<YOUR-SERVER> -i <YOUR SCRIPT FILE> -o <The name of the log
file> [ENTER]

(sa user goes to master, so it will be OK !)

you will be prompted to enter the sa password

password : ********** [ENTER]

When it is finished, read the content of your log file. If it's OK, online
your database and you can work.

When you're sure that you're the only active user, then I bet that you
are in the database yourself (i.e. you have done "use
<your_db_name>"). This means that a user (you) is currently using that
database, so the server won't overwrite it by loading a dump. Do a
"use master" and retry loading your dump; this should solve the
problem. If that still doesn't fix you problem, shutdown & restart the
server.
(Note: I am assuming you are not trying to load a dump of the master
database, because you will need to start the server in single-user
mode before you can do that).

HTH,

Rob
