Hi

Why cant we have a bcp out with a filter. ie. I want to bcp out only rows
that satisfy a condition(s)instead of the whole table. I think this is
possible through external tools I guess like Powerbuilder's pipeline, but
what if we dont use PowerBuilder.

Oracle has introduced a similar feature with their export utility

Thanx
Ani

Hi,

Along these lines, why not add support for a bcp out with a query statement
in a similar fashion as M$$QL supports. This does NOT require extra admin
like creating a new view for every bcp, and dropping it afterwards.

Cheers
Carel

Using ASE 12.5.x, you can create a proxy table that references a file, then do:

select * into existing table file_table from source_table where...

This will have the effect of bcp out with a filter, where the filter is defined by the contents of your 'where' clause.

BCP 11.1 and higher support bcping out of a view. There is an existing
feature request,
CR 68071, for bcp itself to have a filter option.
