is it possible to connect with jdbcconnect to a sql server 11 on win nt
broadcasting the ipx/spx and named pipe protocols ?

i have heard something about tds 'tabular data stream' but am not sure
what it is. also if i can connect with ipx/spx or named pipes what does
the connect look like in java ?

I don't believe this will work as we use sockets. You will notice
that you have to provide a host/ip and port:

i.e.:
"jdbc:sybase:Tds:192.138.151.39:4444"
