I'm a bit unsure what jConnect is trying to tell me. <s>

I can connect to a SQL Server database (over a network) and establish a
connection from which I can obtain the DatabaseMetaData instance.

However, trying getColumns, getTables, and getTableTypes all throw a
SQLException with the text: 'Metadata accessor information was not found
on this database."

What am I being told here?

TIA

There are some SQL-Scripts included with jConnect in the
$JDBC_HOME/sp directory which you have to install on your
database before the DBMD methods will work. These scripts need
to be run as "sa" on SQL Server or "dba" on SQL Anywhere
