I'm trying to insert large images (1M) through jConnect.
If I insert these images into a table, I appear unable to
read these images back through a query. If I select rows
from the table, and include the column containing the image,
The ResultSet comes back silently empty - no rows match. But
if I remove the column containing the large image, the query
suceeds.

I tried setting setMaxFieldSize() but that is not supported.

Is there something which needs to be set to make this work?

Thanks,

Tom Zepf

Hi Tom,

I have spent a fair amount of time today investigating
your problem.

The issue with returning 33k blob is not a jConnect problem
but it appears to be a problem with the dbos50 which is
the Sql Anywhere gateway as it gets an overflow conversion
error. This can be seen if you boot dbos50 with the -v option.
If you have a support contract for SQL Anywhere, you might want
to check with tech support to see if they have encountered this
before via the gateway. Note I can repro this problem without
jConnect.

The same test works fine against a SQL Server.

We worked with Sybase Technical Support on this problem (issue # 436013).
Turns out this is a problem in the gateway. 5.5.02 has a fix for it so if
you can wait until then, you will never see this problem.

The workaround is to have only the blob column in the result set. We
tested this workaround up to about 130K blobs and it worked fine.

Thanks, Jon Nordby - Channelpoint. (TomZ's co-worker).

Hi Jon,

Well that is not quite true.

The change in 5.502 will allow for upt to 2mb returned for a
text column in a result set with other columns. on novell, this
will be 32k.

The workaround that you were provided will work on any platform.

Hope this helps,

lance

It would be helpful if you could post a compilable sample program
which ideally accesses pubs2 to demonstrate your problem.
