hi,

i want to make DatabaseMetaData methods work, but when executing the
following:
java IsqlApp -U guest -P sybase -S jdbc:sybase:Tds:pub2:4444 -I
%JDBC_HOME%\sp\sql_anywhere.sql -c go

the script works for a while (i made the changes for jdk 1.02 mentioned
in the install instructions)
and then terminates with the error:

"
executing:
set option quoted_identifier = 'ON'
Unexpected exception:jdbc.sql.SQLException: Incorret syntax near the
keyword 'option'
, sqlstate = ZZZZZ
jdbc.sql.SQLException: Incorret syntax near the keyword 'option'
"

i use winnt4.0, sqlanywhere server 5.5, jConnect (may 21 1997), pentium
90, jdk1.02.
any suggestions ?

You need to install the sql_anywhere.sql script as "dbo" for this
stuff to work properly, and I think you may need to upgrade to
SA 5.5.02 for this to really work right.

Also - The sql_anywhere.sql script is having alot of work done on it
now by our experts in the PowerJ/SQLAnywhere division. We hope to
have a much better version of that script available any day now.

Sorry for the difficulties you are having with that script - the
jConnect developement team is much more familiar with our SQL Server
product and has been trying to learn about SQL Anywhere as we go,
but didn't do a terribly good job in this area. We are working on
it now.

To further add to Dave's comments: to use DatabaseMetaData with SQL
Anywhere you will have to 1) upgrade to 5.5.02 (there were some bugs in the
Open Server Gateway that were fixed) and 2) get the new sql_anywhere.sql
script. 5.5.02 is not yet on the web, but it has been sent to
manufacturing, so I expect the patch to show up anyday at

http://www.powersoft.com/services/support/sqlanywhere/files/

Once 5.5.02 is out there we'll provide a new sql_anywhere.sql script that
you can run on your database(s). The new script seems to mostly work, just
needs a bit of tweaking.

Hi,
I had similar problems to execute 'sql_server.sql' against a Sybase SQL
Server 11 (with JDK 1.1). I didn't examine the problem, cause I transfer
the script to Unix and execute it with isql and it works fine. So I
think you could use the standard tools from SQL anywhere to execute the
script.

Ciao Wolfgang

PS: If you use ODBC connections to your database only install the newest
version of JConnect (from 20.05.97) because older versions can cause
trouble with ODBC connections (see the Sybase/Powersoft web pages)
