I have downloaded jConnect.exe (for Win95) twice now. In both cases I
have got a file of size 1977kb (viewed from Windows Explorer). In both
cases when I have tried to double-click on the executable, a message has

come up saying its "not a valid Win32 application". Am I doing something

extraordinary here?

Ah: a fellow Australian, I certainly MUST answer this...

jConnect comes in the shape of a self-extracting Java executable class
file. This means you have to run it with yout Java executable. For
example, if you are using Visual J++, just type:
jview jConnect
or, if you are with Sun's 1.02, then
java jConnect

Some trouble comes up later, when you try to manage multiple versions
of the driver. If you rename the file to anything other than
jConnect.java, then it refuses to uncompress.

When you download jConnect you get a JAVA .class file, not a .exe. Go
to DOS and run:

java jConnect

To uncompress it.

When you download for windows you *DO* get an exe. I had to rename it to

a .class file and then follow the instructions from there. However, you
may be
in store for more headaches. I still haven't gotten it to work on
anything
but the database hosted on the Sybase site.
