WINNT 4.0 SP2 or SP3
128 MB memory

I'm unable to execute jConnect.exe (2117276 bytes), getting
the message: "Program too big to fit in memory"

Any ideas on how to extract the jConnect trial package?

Thanks.

-Scott

I am running into the sam eproblem. Have downloaded several times. I
have Pentium
166 with 64 Mb memory, and showing only about 34% used. I think someone
has made a mistake, or it does not work on NT 4.0 sp2.

Scott you're not alone, mine won't work either...

NT 4.0 SP3, 32 megs RAM

Downloaded it twice and tried using the jdk1.0.2 and jdk1.1.3. Renamed
the file which is downloaded from jConnect.exe to jConnect.class in an
effort to make java see the class. Then I got a funky error "unable to
open myself??jConnect.class, Make sure installation class is present in
the current directory"

I have already installed jConnect in the past and didn't run into this
problem at that time. Any clues out there?

Scott,

If you downloaded the product from the web, it is a jinstall
archive.

To unpack, you would type java jConnect.

If you have a CD, there should also be a jConnect.cls on it which
you may rename to jConnect.class and execute the above. The
web version has more functionality that the current jConnect
CD. If you have purchased the product, you may obtain a non-timebombed
copy of the latest and greatest by contacting tech support.

Got it working.  The instructions are a bit off but it's managable.  Here's what I did:
1. Installed JDK1.1.3 per installation instructions from Sun.
2. Downloaded jConnect.exe (not classes)
3. Renamed jConnect.exe to jConnect.class
4. Set my classpath=c:\jdk1.1.3\lib\classes.zip;.
5. Set current directory at DOS command prompt to the directory where the                jConnect.class (formerly jConnect.exe) resides.
6. typed the following java jConnect

And away the extraction goes....

Good luck!

Jeff,

I successfully loaded this down as jConnect.class.

I would check your mime configuration under options within
netscape.

The way I am configured I will get prompted for the name of
the file and the location.

You will also note that if you place the mouse on the link
that it displays jConnect.class not jConnect.exe.

I spoke to scott yesterday and I was able to show him that
the link was jConnect.class..

anyway... I am glad you were successful.

btw, which version of netscape are you using?

Lance,

I'm using Netscape Communicator 4.0.1. I never noticed that the link
actually shows the correct name. Seems my browser defaults to the .exe
extension instead of .class for some reason. Better check that one...

Anyways, I supposed the directions are right on :)

Thanks
-Jeff
