I have modified Validata.java to try to connect to our own internal
Sybase server.

I receive the following error:

java.sql.SQLException: Cannot find the requested character set in
Syscharsets: name = 'iso_1'.

My modified version of Ping.java returns the same error.

I'm using JDK 1.1, and jconnect version 2.1, according to the output of
Validate. (Isn't 3.0 the latest? I downloaded jconnect on Friday,
8/22.)

Could someone help me interpret this error?

Lee-

You must be running on NT(cp850), or HPUX(roman_8) where the default
character sets for those operating systems aren't iso_1.

There's two ways to deal with this.

1) You can speak to your DBA and have them run sybinit (or config on NT)
to install the iso_1 character set. Jut maike sure you dont make it the
default character set.

2) Set the CHARSET Property in the Property object you feed to
DriverManager.getConnection(String, Property). The possible settings
are found in syscharsets.

Dave-

Our db servers are running on HPUX.

This...

props.put("CHARSET", "roman8");

...did the trick.

Thanks for the quick response.
