We are running Sybase SQL Server/11.0.1/P/PC on Windows NT 3.51. The
SQL server has 160MB. PC box has two pentiumPro processors with 256MB.
No other applications are running on this server. A Delphi searching
application is running in the front-end against SQL server. I load some
new data or update some data into the database everyday. I update the
statistics twice a week. Most of time, no more then 10 users are running
against the SQL server concurrently.

The SQL server had been running well for over one year. But a month
ago, the SQL server became very slow suddenly within 2 days. We didn't
find out what was the problem, but I reinstalled the SQL server and
reloaded all the databases. It runs fine. But today, SQL server
become very slow very suddenly again. Disk hits are very high.
I haven't figure out what is wrong.

Any help or information are very appreciated. Thanks!

There is a problem with Sybase 11.x running on NT with SMP's. You can try
upgrading your Sybase version to 11.0.3 which have a fix for SMP's. Also if
there are too many connection errors( Kernal cannot send host process.......
or 1608 error) in the errror log for a session it may cause your server to
slow down due to memory leakage(Sybase is working on it).

Thank you very much for your both informations!!!

I am going to try upgrading my Sybase server to 11.0.3 soon. But before I
complete this Sybase upgrading, is there any temporary solutions? By just
rebooting the server does not always help that much. Thanks!

Mary
