I'm trying to evaluate Sybase System 11 on NT 4.0 but the server doesn't start.
I'm working in a testing machine it doesn't have a network adapter, i configured TCP/IP
and Named Pipes,
I have set the SQL.INI file this way:

[EDUARDO]
$BASE$00=NLMSNMP,\pipe\sybase\query
$BASE$01=NLWNSCK,eduardo,5000
MASTER=$BASE$00;$BASE$01;
$BASE$02=NLMSNMP,\pipe\sybase\query
$BASE$03=NLWNSCK,eduardo,5000
QUERY=$BASE$02;$BASE$03;

if anyone could help me.

Thanks

Hi Eduardo

Is there any info in your errorlog as to why server is not starting ???
I assume when you say it does not start, you have tried to start the
server using the traffic lights and it tells you it won't start. ???

Hi Matt,

The errorlog doesn't exists yet, the only log I see is the installation
Log, and it doesn't explain why it is not starting.

Eduardo

What do you mean by installation log.
I assume you installed from a CD.
From the CD you ran setup which prompted you with what software (As it
is
evaluation CD it most probably ony showed SQL Server) you wanted to
install.

This would copy Sybase software (Open CLient, Language Modules, SQL
Server)
onto the server (c:\sybase)
It would then prompt you to setup your sql.ini file. Not important at
this
point as you can do this later. Select Ignore for now.

You then get the screen to setup devices for master and sybsystemproc
db's
You should then get messages showing the devices being created and the
registry being updated (Need to be administrator to write to registry)

Did you manage to get past this point or did your install fail.
Send me the installation log and I can then help you with the install

Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt,

After it updates the registry, the installation fails.

I think that the networking its not starting because i don't have a network adapter, i will try to install the
"Dial-up" adapter and bind TCP/IP to it to see if it starts. I'll let you know if something happens.

Thanks

This is the log wich its stored in \Sybase\Init\Logs.

NT does not properly start networking unless a network adapter is
installed.

You can fake it if you do not have a real network adapter by installing
the
"Dial-Up" adapter for a modem, then binding the protocols to that
adapter.
Re-start NT and networking should fire up.
