Hi, there

I've created a Datawindow object (let's call it d_store), and I've added 5
buttons on it, i.e. Previous, Next, Retrieve, Update and Sort. They're linked
to action attributes, PagePrior, PageNext, Retrieve, Update and Sort. And all
client attributes in HTML Generation are checked. Now, I've tried 2 ways to
create HTML Datawinodw pages, one is using PowerSite HTML Datawindow DTC, and
the other is using JavaScript in PowerDynamo.

1. PowerSite
HTML page works fine using PowerSite HTML Datawindow DTC except that SORT button
doesn't show up on HTML page. This SORT button is on the datawindow object.
Questions: Is SORT action is allowed in HTML Datawindow? Why is it not show up
on HTML page? There are about 20 actions in General Attributes in Datawindow,
are there all allowed to be used in HTML Datawindow?

2. PowerDynamo
I used JavaScrip to create HTML page, and the code is something like:
<!--SCRIPT
dwMine=java.CreateComponent("DataWindow/HTMLGenerator","iiop://localhost...);
..
dwMine.SetWeight(true,true,true,true,true);
document.Write(dwMine.Generate());
-->
It shows up the same datawindow (d_store) as in HTML Datawindow DTC. However,
none of the actions of those buttons works, and the SORT button doesn't show up
either.
Questions: Do button actions created in Datewindow object work in JavaScript
code? How to make those button actions work in JavaScript? Do I have to create
functions in JavaScript to make those buttons work? Then why should we bother
to create HTML Datawindow using JavaScript?

Thanks for any help!

Stephen

First, a sort button never works in the web datawindow. Check the online
help for a list of which buttons are not supported for the web dw.

Second, you must call the SetSelfLink method in order for the datawindow to
be updatable. If it is not, then the update button will not appear even if
you placed it on the datawindow.

Third, if you want to do something other than default actions with buttons,
then set the action to UserDefined and code the client-side ButtonClicked
event to capture the button click and act appropriately.

Hi, Larry

Thanks for your information. What I try to do is client side sorting, say when
user clicks emp_id field or some button, the browser will reload the sorted
pages for the all records until user cancel the sorting. I created client
Javascript in PowerSite script editor:
htmlDW.SetSort("#3 A");
htmlDW.Sort();
After it is deployed to PowerDynamo, it works only for the current page. If I
click the button, it reloads the sorted records for the current page. However,
if I click NEXT PAGE button, the sorted order is gone. How can I keep the
sorted records until I cancel it?

Thanks for any help.

Stephen

I believe you would have to create a component to hold the result set, sort
if when you wanted, and give the portion of the result set that you are
currently on via pointers or some similiar mechanism.
