Greetings,

I'm working on an interface that will process requests to fax a document.
The fax can be sourced in ASCII text, postscript, RTF and datawindow
documents, passing it in as a string containing the raw "mark up" for the
document.

Or at least this was my original design. I was going to use getfullstate on
datastores and convert the blob to a string on the client. Then pass that
string up to the server. But when I try to convert the blob to a string,
only the first character ends up in the string variable.

I can write the blob to a file from PB, the file content is legible and
appears to be what I'd expect it to look like. But I can not read this
file into a string either.

Is there a way to do this, or will I have to develop a second interface to
handle blobs containing the datawindow syntax?

I was using a string because I will definitely be implementing clients in
other languages on multiple platforms. Does CORBA / EAS implement a BLOB
type? What does this look like? Should I consider changing my interface to
a BLOB instead of a string? Are there any oddities to take into
consideration?

Thanks

We have an IDL defined object called BCD::Binary. Its really a typedef of

typedef sequence<octet> Binary

Which is justa simple byte[] in Java and BLOB in PB. Can you make a sync
method that takes the DW syntax and our BLOB/BCD::Binary?

Is there an implementation for blob via the ActiveX proxy?

Okay, so if I changed the interface from a string to a blob....

I could use

java.lang.String.getBytes()

to turn a string into a usable "BLOB" and then use the constructor

java.lang.String(byte[])

to get it back to a string is appropriate?

Thanks

That should work. As for the COM proxies, Im not 100% positive but the docs
will show legal datatypes. Since 3.5 supports sequences it should support
that as well.

Spiffy (the technical term)

I don't know of an immediate need to do the COM stuff, but thought I'd
ask....

Thanks
