Hi,

Does Jaguar support asynchronous method invocaton?
I know that Expersoft's Powerbroker CORBAplus allowed you to simply edit IDL
such as:

#pragma pb_async InterfaceName

How can I do the similar thing in Jaguar's IDL?

Thanks a lot,
Maya

Please see the IDL Documentation for the EventSamples module. I also think
there are whitepapers on this in SDN. Also note that we will have a
Message Service available in the next month or so.

Thanks Dave
Would that approach that is used for the EventSamples module
work in the case of EJB 1.0? There is a Thread class involved for async
notification.
Am I alowed to open new threads in EJB?
Also, what is the Message Service?

Thanks,
Maya

EJB forbids threads on the server, the threads we use in that sample are on
the client.

The MessageService is a service that allows for queue based messaging both
point to point as well as publish/subscribe based messaging between beans or
bean to client. It allows for either transient or persistant message
queuing and guaranteed devliery. It will eventually have a JMS interface
which would then be fully J2EE compliant.

Thanks, Dave
Unfortunately, my client is PowerDynamo, is there any way to invoke async
method from there
or I should wait for MessageService (and also would it help me anyway) ?

Async from Dyanmo is never really every going to be async. Dynamo will
always have to poll. Without polling HTTP has no way to handle this,
whether its dynamo or anything else.

Dave, if it doesn't go out of the scope of the newsgroup discussion, what is
your recommendation to handle the following scenario:
the EJB method that I call from Dynamo page takes long time to execute and
eventually I receive time expired message from the browser along with all
the unappropriate behavior for the business user point of view. What are the
appropriate techniques to handle this case?

Thanks for your time,
Maya

I am afraid You will have to do the same thing we had to do - run Your long
executing function as an external process on the application server.

I disagree. I would do this. Create a service component. Enqueu the work
into the service component, which could use a database as the queue. Now
have the service component run a configurable number of threads and have
those threads pull the work off the queue and do it. When the work is done,
put a message into an outbound queue. Clients can now check the outbound
queue for their work.
