hi all,

we just deployed a dynamo site today and had to shut it down within 3 hours due
to extremely poor performance. the site is a simple lookup site which allows
people to search information based on category and keywords. there are 2 pages
on this site, one is to get the search parameters, and the second to display
the search results.

the platform is powerdynamo 3.0 running on a sun e450 machine with netscape
web server. the database is a sybase database running under a 11.9.2 server
on the same machine. we are also using the sybase specialty data store to
perform full text searching. this engine is also running on this machine.

what i see is that the site performs reasonably well until i get about 30 or so
connections after which it seems to choke. at this point, if i run my search
query through some sql tool, the queries run fine so i know that it is not
my database server.

i have set my min user connections to 10 and max user connections to 100 though
i played with different numbers. i cannot use caching because my pages are
completely dynamic. the web server administrator informs me that the web server
seems to be fine which i concur because it serves other static non-dynamo
content
just fine.

has anybody here encountered a similar problem or have info that can help me ?
any input will be appreciated.

thanks

- pervez

Are you using DynaScript or the embedded formatting tags? Have you looked
into optimizing your script if you're using it?

are u using dynamic file site or database site ? if u are using database
site now, try using dynamic file site instead. Its should give u better
performance especially when there are large no. of concurrent users.

i am having trouble changing this site from a database site to a dynamic file
site. it works fine on nt but not on solaris. i get an error that says "a
connection has not been specified for this document" when i try to execute a
simple spwho.stm.

hi dave,

thanks for your response. i am not using the embedded formatting tags but
straight dynascript. i do use an embedded formatting tag to populate a drop
down box with about 20 or so items.

the problems seems to be related to the load. with 10 or so users on it, there
is absolutely no problem. so i am thinking it is a dynamo configuration
thing.

what do you think ?
