Will 3.5 client software work against earlier versions of Jaguar i.e. 3.0.1?

Thanks

Peter

Yes it will. Deployed clients cannot tell what version of Jaguar they are
communicating with. The Java ORB and libjcc.dll (used for PB, COM, C++ clients)
both use IIOP 1.1 by default, and EAServer has supported IIOP 1.1 since version
2.0.

If you want version 3.0.1 clients to talk to a Jaguar 3.5 server, you need the
latest EBF for 3.0.1 clients for this to work correctly. (There was a small
interoperability bug in EAServer 3.0.1 clients that has been resolved).

Other folks have pointed out that you should ensure that your development
environment or Jaguar Manager matches the server. This is advisable, but has
nothing to do with deployed client programs.

I think my read of this question was different than Evan's. Just to
clarify, the thread that I/Carson/Dave/Scott where referring to was in
regards to the EAS client tools, such as the Sybase Central Jaguar
Plugin,
PowerJ deployment to EAS..etc...

Now about making sure that bird is well fed and given plenty of
liquids.... Anyone up for the Capital Grille.... Carson, their steaks
may not be 48 ounces, but we can order you two!!!

I apologise I should have been more clear - we've been running EAS in
production for 6 months and can't upgrade immediately due to ongoing EAS
(3.0.1) based projects so we need multi version support from our client
sfotware whilst we test the newer version, which I'm pleased to say can be
done (thanks again Evan).

I would not reccomend you do this at this time. This was not tested and
it would not surprise me if you encounter a hiccup or two. I have asked
for PowerJ 3.6 that they try and provide a mechanism to deploy to EAS
3.5 and possibly 3.01 as well as EAS 3.6.

The Sybase Central EAS plugin will connect to a Jag 3.01 server, but I
do not know how successful (or un-successful) you will be on a
deployment.

Regards,
Lance

A little birdie told me over the weekend that this will likely not be
supported in 3.6 either, but that was just the little birdie's
opinion. :)
