Hi! During testing of our web(PD) application, we've noticed that everytime
a page runs through calls to Jaguar components, mem usage of jagserv.exe
increases (as monitored from Win NT Task manager) and this will only go down
when the Jaguar Server is restarted. I have already changed the config of
my components to be stateless (autodemarc is on and instance pooling is on)
and I have observed that instances pooled remains 1.0 even when session for
a user has already ended. Do I need to change something else w/ my component
properties or add something like component = null at the end of my script? I
have also noticed that connections opened remains 1.0 and connections closed
remains 0.0 (even after no one else is accessing the pages), I have set my
component to require no trxn and I have a Disconnect stmt in my deactivate
event. Am I missing something?
Thanks for anyone's help in advance! =-)

Haze,

If you are instance pooling then the number of instances pooled will increase,
if multiple clients try to create the same object at the same time then more
instances will be created and the number of pooled objects will increase
accordingly. The number of "Instances Active" should only increase while the
object is active and methods are being executed, once the object has finished
this value should return to zero.

As for your memory leakage, I found that early builds of Powerbuilder were
causing memory leakage, someone kindly pointed out on this newsgroup that the
problem was with strings and blobs in powerbuilder jaguar components and was
fixed in build 7023 of powerbuilder. I would get the latest EBF and install that
and see how it goes. Email me if you want me to send a zip of EBF build 8017 of
powerbuilder.

Thanks Adam for your reply. I was wondering, is there something wrong w/ my
component if instances active does not return to 0 even when the object has
already been 'deactivated' or is no longer in use, because currently this is
what is happening w/ our setup. Also, when I get the latest EBF, what do I
need to do w/ my components? just redeploy it ?
Thnx again for your help. =-)

Are they stateful or stateless. Do they call SetComplete or SetAbort if
stateful?

All of them are stateless components.

Haze,
Well I am still not sure if you are instance pooling your components???
If you have the autodemarcation/deactivation set and instance pooling on as well
then after you perform one method call on the object it will be deactivated and
put into the pool and you will have one instance pooled and non instances
active.

As Dave pointed out, if you do NOT have the autodemaraction/deactivation turned
on then it is up to the client to complete the object and you will have to call
SetComplete or SetAbort on the object and then your instance will be pooled and
not active anymore.

Try getting hold of Larry Cermaks tutorials ( search the Sybase SDN site ) on
creating jaguar components and have a run through the stateless example and you
should get the hang of it.

As for the EBF, it has a readme file, but basically you have to recompile all
your code and redeploy to be on the safe side and of course reboot your jag
server :-)
