I still have a problem with deployment from powerj. Jaguar has a lock on
the JAR file and will not let the
deployment of the new jar file until I stop jaguar, delete the old jar and
restart jaguar.

I am also still running with the conponent refreash propertie as false do to
some RMI problem with the class loader.

Alan,

I have had a case open that involves this very problem for several months. I
have arranged for tech support personnel to access our servers to try to resolve
the problem. Hopefully, this will occur sometime next week.

I would like to know what platform you are running your servers on. We are using
NT4. We have also experienced a problem related to deployment of jar files with
NT that is very serious. There seems to be a limit on the length of the
classpath in NT which if exceeded will prevent NT from loading the next time it
is shut down. I had to install another copy of NT on one of our servers so that
I could access the registry of the original installation and change the
classpath. Once I shortened the classpath, I was able to restart the machine
with the original NT installation. I did some testing to make sure that it was
just the length of the classpath, and not a particular jar file that was causing
the problem.

We have also had a problem with PowerDynamo requiring a restart of NT to load a
new jar file. Once Jaguar is stopped, you can replace the jar file, but with
PowerDynamo stopping the webserver does not release the lock on the jar file.

To add a little more confusion to the situation, I don't have to stop Jaguar to
redeploy a service bean, only to have Jaguar load it. I have a problem with the
jagadmin account not being able to refresh the server. I am looking into this
problem now.

I would be happy to keep you informed of anything I learn related to the jar
file problem.

Best Regards,
Kim

Dave:
This JAR file is not in any other classpath.

Also I am not using PD.

I do not need to use refresh=false anymore. The JAR is in the classpath.

the refresh fix:
remember this was related to a problem with RMI client on the server.
Well, I was creating a securitymanager in the rmi client. This is only
needed on the calling side of things.
Now this works on both NT and UNIX.

Just another note:
The renamefail error occurs even after I reboot the server and do nothing
but redeploy.

Can you then please remove the JAR from the ClassPath, restart the server,

OK:
After removing the component from the class path and rebooting the server, I
was able to deploy the new jar.
To my surprise, i was also able to run the component from my PB application
without changing the class path in jag manager. This bothers me because i
needed to added to get it to run at one time.

Also, I have the JAR file of the remote rmi object in the class path as
well. before I added this, my components was not able to find the interface
stub.

Does this sound correct???

IN Jaguar manager, open the components property sheet, go to all properties.
Find that property and modify it adding the right JAR into the comma

in the betas for 3.5 but we thought we'd fixed it. I havent seen it in a
long time.

Do you have the JAR is the CLASSPATH that Jag is using since you have
refresh=false?

Kimberly.

You bring up an interesting question I want to ask you guys. The JAR files
that cannot be replaced. Are they in ANYone elses CLASSPATH? Like say PD
or PowerJ any anything?

IN any case, we did have a bug re: this but it got fixed. Maybe this is
another version of it, or maybe there is another product out there with the
JAR it its CLASSPATH and that product has a lock on the file.
