Hi,

If you guys remember I said that a freeform DW is about 100k if you take the
fulll stuff and about 60 -70k if you take only what you need.

TOO MUCH FOR EUROPE.
So our solution was throwing away the HTMLDW

NO, NO, I was just kidding.

We looked into the generated source code and took the functions (there are a lot
of them) and gave thim into a js file. In our own HTMLDW component we took away
the functions (POS, LEFT, RIGHT,...) and inserted an include there.

Voila: It was 18 seconds -> it is 8 seconds (the 2nd time).

I wonder why Sybase is not doung this:

In SetWeight just tell the HTML-Generator to include the needed js file and
there should be a property on the HTMLDW where the path (URL) to this files is.

Maybe Sybasse should look to other vendors (they begin with an O and end with en
E), they try to optimice the code which is sent to the client. What is Sybase
doing? More than 1k of comment is sent back -> every time!!!!!
I will not say these are better tools, but most of them are more optimiced.

SYBASE HAS SO GREAT IDEAS, so please improve the realization.

BTW, what's with the TECHWAVE99 features. Will we see them at TECHWAVE 2000
again? Not that all of them would be usefull, but there did not happen a lot
since this time (PowerSite, Dynamo and also PB is the nearly the same than in
August last year). Has Sybase too few Developers?

Bernett,

Your best bet is to open a case with support to ask for an enhancement for
the HTML DW so that we do this. If you dont open a case, we'll never know
what an advantage this can be.

Secondly we have released 3 full dot-zero releases in just one year. Find
me another software company that releases 3 full versions every year. We're
not short on developers, and the ones we have are damned good. And BTW
we've had a maintence release and a dot-zero release since techwave.

Hi Dave,

Case Number is: 20201648

I will bet all I have that I will not see this feature (and for us european guys
with our slow connections it's a must have) this year.

There is a workaround:

This is how it works:

1. Unzip the attached zip file and install dwcc[0-7]70.js in your website
(for eg: EASDemo\Site\HTMLdw directory)
2. Create your own HTML Generator which overloads the
DataWindow\HTMLGenerator Generate() function
3. Modify the Generate() code as follows:
----------------------------
string ls_result

if ib_trace then of_log_enter("Generate()")

// The RESOURCEBASE should point back to the place where the js files are
installed
ids_datastore.Modify("DataWindow.HTMLGEN.RESOURCEBASE='http://localhost/EASD
emo/htmldw'")

// The INLINECLASS property tells the DataWindow not to send the script with
the generate and instead refer to the
// installed js files
ids_datastore.Modify("DataWindow.HTMLGEN.INLINECLASS=0")

ls_result = ids_datastore.Describe("DataWindow.Data.HTML")

if ib_trace then of_log_exit("Generate(), length = " +
String(Len(ls_result)))

of_completeWork()

return ls_result
--------------------------

OR

You could modify the Dynamo Script ObjMod to call component.Modify()...
before calling component.Generate()

Ashish,

I tried this, because you really got my attention, but the Modify calls
fail. It does not recognize either of those htmlgen attributes.

Also, would you mind telling me, either here or privately, where you got
this technique?

God ! I am embarrassed!!

I am extremely sorry for the mis-information...

This was a fix which never made it to PB EBF...

I will get working on this and hopefully this time I won't screw up and give
you guys the fix...

Believe me when I say it is going to be on similar lines :-)

Dave,

I agree that your (Sybase) developers ARE good, and you can see it in all the
tools that they ARE good, but I am sure they could be improved (speed, handling
(PowerJ, PB7, PowerSite), code generation (PowerSite, HTMLDW),...).

And if you can put your Sybase hat down (again) for a moment you would agree.

And yes, there were releases since techwave, but

where is the nice gadget in PowerSite (I don't use it, but hey they said they
will do it), that you can see the DataWindow at design time??

where is the configuration parameter (for a file) for PowerSite where it can
find the Jaguar server, the pbls and so on (DEAN you were in this session with
me!!)?

Don't understand me wrong. The tools are really good, but they indeed need some
improvements and this is not done (PowerSite IS horrible and what enhancements
(not bugfixes)were made for PowerSite and PowerDynamo).

And that not everything IS OKAY at development/testing you can see again if you
try to install ASA7 to an existing EAStudio35 (it works, yeah, but Java Central
does not want to start...).
