Hi All,

I have a PB7 app that uses only External DWs populated by result sets from
JAG (PowerJ). How do you create a Composite/Nested report using external
DWs? The PB docs say that you cannot get a reference to an external DW using
getChild(). So how are the nested DWs populated? Does the report have to be
built using SQL DWs (data aware)? How are people creating reports using JAG
result sets?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,

Rich

If this is all in a component, you can certainly use a resultset to populate
a datastore. What's the function, ahhh...hold on, let me
check...CreateFrom. I've used CreateFrom to create a datawindow from a
resultset passed by an intercomponent call to another Jag component and it
worked fine. I don't see any problem with doing it to an external. Worst
case you could create another datastore and then sharedata or read/write
into the external.

Hi Larry,

The problem is that the external DWs are in a composite report to create a
parent/child/child/... report. Therefore the external DWs are nested
reports. The PB help states that you cannot get a reference to a nested DW
when it is an external type. So, I don't see how to do a sharedata from a
datastore populated from the resultset or using the resultset to populate a
datastore and use a rowsmove to populate the DW as we do with our normal DW
browses and maintenance screens. We would like to keep this 3-tier, JAG
populating DWs from Oracle.

Any Ideas? Or am I missing something?

Regards,

Rich

Nope, my mistake, I misread the question. Unfortunately I don't know about
this.

Are your externals report objects inside a composite?
Then you can do a getchild...
