Hi, to all my friends at the NewsGroup.

As it happens in the corporate life, I was faced with a last time question
from the
upper management: did I evaluate WebLogic instead of EAS (running my PB and
EJB
components) running against PB client? Well, I did not.

Let me put it straight: I HAVE to respond in technical terms.

So I think:
1. PB components would have to be rewrtitten in Java - (easy)
2. DataWindow.JAR and supporting DLLs as well as
powerjr.zip will have to be deployed within WebLogic - (h-mmm)

But will PB ORB talk to WebLogic's one at all?

Please comment, people...

Thanks in advance,
Victor

A few things

1) WebLogic Server does not have any CORBA interface. Only WebLogic
Enterprise (M3) does

2) You're best and safest bet for PB to talk to WLS is via COM. However
their COM implementation is weak and has very limited datatypes

Now, you could have PB talk to EAS and then have Java components (CORBA or
EJB) call out to WLS.

Nope. This will not work due to the VBA syntax used.

We have a group in our bank that is pushing Weblogic. Our group is using EA
Studio. The biggest difference I see is Weblogic's lack of development
tools. (I know they just bought Visual Cafe but it is yet to be integrated
like EAS). The use of the html datawindow avoids having to code formating,
groupings, computed fields, insert/update/delete logic manually. Our group
is pumping out web pages daily while their group is struggling while they
have to write alot more plumbing code to get even the first screen to work.
One of their members have even adapted the use of Powersite as an html tool
since they have no tool like this for a point and click interface. Because
of BEA great success as a company, I had a serious uphill battle convincing
management to go with EAS. However, they now see how much faster we are
able to get our apps to the web and continue to meet our deadlines without
having to go through a re-training process and re-writing of all of our PB
apps. The battle here still continues, but I have gained much ground and now
have managements full comittment to move ahead with EA Studio.

From a technical perspective it should, since we use Jaguar's C++ ORB. From
the PB support perspective, however, accessing anything other than EAServer
from the JaguarORB object (or the connection object) is not supported.
