I have recently begun having serious resource problems running InfoMaker
ver 4.0. The .pbl resides on the network, however my copy of InfoMaker
is installed locally. My machine is a P100 with 32mg RAM. I have
experienced the following:
1) Retrieval problems. I run a report and it does not retrieve
information I know is there. I can copy the syntax of the report into
ISQL/w or even into the Admin function of InfoMaker and get the desired
information. Eventually, if I retrieve the report enough times, the
correct information will be retrieved. Typically, if I reboot the
computer, the problem lessens.
2) In the last week or so, I have been getting dialogue boxes that say
my system is "dangerously low on resources" and it then prompts me to
close IM. Each and every time this has happened, IM is the only app I am
running or have been running. I have nothing that runs in the background
on this machine, there are no viruses or this or any other machine (I
run virus scans network wide several times a week). This is a new
phenomenon and is making working with IM extremely difficult, as I am
having to restart my machine every 30-60 minutes.

Thanks.. again!

4.0 had several problems that caused resource leakage.

One was with the interaction with the Watcom 4.0 database.

Some others had to do with the interaction of the report with the window
it's placed on.

I'd say it's best you make sure you're running 4.0.07 (the latest 4.0
build) if you choose to stay on 4.0.07 or seriously think about
upgrading to Infomaker 5.0. I believe every copy of Powerbuilder
Desktop comes with a free copy of Infomaker to pass on to a collegue.
For Powerbuilder developers, there's more of a reason to stay with an
earlier release. With Infomaker, it makes sense to upgrade immediately
in my opinion.

Stephen,

I checked and I have 4.0.03. Is there a patch or something available
that upgrades to 4.0.07? Is there an upgrade available to ver 5.0 and at
what cost?

Thanks!

5.0.03 and 4.0.07 will be on the web site - I'm stretching here - but by
the end of this week, I'm told. You can apply 4.0.07 over the top of
4.0.03. It's a very simple install and upgrade.

Definitely think about upgrading if you can and consider 5.0.

There are definitely some gains going to SQL Anywhere 5.x with the
upgrade. This is the upgrade to the Watcom 4.x database shipped with
IM 4.0. Infomaker generally costs around $99 street price standalone, I
think, but as I said, any developer with a copy of PB Desktop will have
this in the box too if you have any collegues that have PB.

The resource leak (if memory serves) should be gone in 4.0.07. Try it
and see. There were quite a few fixed in the 4.0.04-06 releases.
