I have several reports that I have been trying to make simple changes to
and each time I change the position, format or close up some space
between the bands, a random value will "Drop Out" (appears to be blank).
I have looked at the "Autosize", "Color", "Font", etc....and I can not
get the value to show up without closing the report, without saving it,
and starting over and then it will most likely do the same thing.

Sometimes it may be only a single item in a column or it could be
multiple columns and on different rows (either in the same band or not).

I'm using InfoMaker v5.0.01 under Win95 (OEM OSR2).

If anyone can help with this, I would really appreciate it since my
timeline is running out.....

Thanks

I don't understand what you mean with "Drop Out". Can you give a detailed
example.
Anyways, I would definitely upgrade to IM5.0.02 or 5.0.03.

Terry,

It seems that I may have stumbled onto the cause of this phenomenon I
have been trying to define. As it turns out some of the data (supplied
by my client) and calculated through the formulas results in a
divide-by-zero (DBZ) situation and causes the column to be BLANK and not
show zero or display an error in the field.

I would expect that if IM is going to handle the DBZ situation then it
should do so by either showing zero or possibly #error - dbz# in the
field and stop the report. This functionality is sometimes a system
customization switch the user can configure and if I find other info
about this I will update the forum.

Thanks

Ed

You can work around it in your formula. In this example

if (isNull(vol1/vol2) , 0, vol1/vol2)

will default to 0 when vol2 = 0, else just print the results of the
vol/vol2 calculation

SInce the above doesn't tell you whether the 0 results from an invalid
value or from vol1 being zero, you can use:

if (isNull(vol1/vol2) , "ERR", string(vol1/vol2,'###0.0')

I have updated to release 5.0.03 and it has not fixed this paticular
problem. This is so frustrating because all I have to do is move one of
the "Bands" up or down, about a mickey, and a random data item goes
away. Most of the time you can just cancel changes reload the report
and start over or sometimes you can move the "Band" back to its original
position and the data shows back up.

Are there any POST 5.0.03 updates (DLL's, EXE's....). I have a full
copy of Ent. PowerBuilder, is there any advantage to doing these reports
there? Is there a simple way to migrate what I have?

It is really hard to describe without sending you the DB and reports, which I can't do even if I wanted due to customer privacy.  The only thing I can say is that in the "Detail" band I have three rows, the first is the raw "Column" data being retrieved and the second row is "Computed" fields that use the column data of the first row and third row is again a row of "Column" values.

The next band "Trailer Group rowdesc" (rowdesc is used to order the data and is in the "Definition" tab of "Group 1") has three rows which are all "Computed" fields and in this band the first row is shown on the report as a summary of the detail band.  This is the same thing that is done for the "Summary" band to show the "Totals", which also has some final calculations.

So what happens,  when the report is run the detail band is moved all the way up to prevent any data from being shown on the report ( we want the summary info for these items ) and the group band is moved up just below the first row of calc's to show the summary data and the "Summary" band is as you see it (the total calculations).  So, when the report is executed, a column value or calculation is blank and causes the dependent calc to be in error.  It appears the blank item can in any row or column and may be several items:

I hope this has helped define the problem, I will be updating the version but I have been told by another developer that he has seen the same problem on a more recent version (5.??).

Try the following:
Ok, slide the detailed line up but be sure that all fields are marked as
unvisible , movable, resizable, "slide all above" and setup your
detailed line to be autosized. That will not show any data in detailed
line and maybe will solve your problem.
