Hello,
A customer writes:

"I'm currently running InfoMaker 5.0 FORMS. I am however
puzzled as to why it takes such a long time to load fows from Oracle
when there is no criteria specified.

I tried changing the number of rows in Query Governor but
it does not help. My question is, does InfoMaker retrieve all rows
from Oracle into SQL Anywhere first before displaying it in the form?
If so, is there anyway to improve this since I believe most
users do not like to wait until all the rows are loaded before they can
see them.

(ie) InfoMaker FORMS takes 30 seconds to load all rows.

Microsoft Access (ODBC) starts displaying rows only after 3 seconds.

Thanks for your response...tim"

I've just started running Infomaker myself, so I can't say for sure, but
have you compared this to a query executed at an Oracle SQL*Plus command
line for the same query? Your form is probably doing a full table scan and
not using indexes. Are there any indexes on the table? That might help.
(Sorry if I've stated something you already know, though.)

I struggle with this issue too. Generally speaking I use forms only for
small tables / select statements that return only a small number of rows.
Try to avoid sorting the table too to increase the retrieval.
If you want to, you can submit an enhancement request using webexpress
(http://support.sybase.com/fd_ess.html and select Case/Issue management) to
show data as soon enough data is there to fill the screen (similar to the
option 'Rows, Retrieve, Rows as needed' available with reports).

The query governor is used to prevent users from issuing run-away queries
that retrieve millions of rows and potentially kill the server.
