Hello,
does anyone know if there is some special trick to do unions using
Infomaker? Is there some special setup to do before attempting to create
ex. report using union of two tables?
I was trying to do some simply stuff, but I've noticed that the same
union that works in our Oracle/SQL does not work when I'm trying to do
Infomaker.
I'm talking about simply examples, let's say:

(select a.bla1, a.bla2 from employee a)
union
(select c.bla1, c.bla2 from employee c)

I would appreciate any help in that matter since I have created some
advanced grouped reports that I'd like to connect using unions and I'm
completly stucked even with the little queries like the one above.

I was trying to do unions from the report painter, query painter, and
database administration painter.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Remove the parentheses:
select a.bla1, a.bla2 from employee a
union
select c.bla1, c.bla2 from employee c

Thanks a lot!
It works, however only in the syntax design mode.
When I try to convert the syntax to the graphical mode, it is not
working. Any trick for that, or rather this kind of approach is not
possible?
And another thing: is it possible to specify retrieval parameters while
creating reports using unions?

Sorry for the confusion and thanks in advance.
Greetings,
Eva.

Converting UNIONS back to graphics doesn't work very well. Sometimes it
works, but most of the times it doesn't.
But why don't you build the UNION in the graphical painter directly? In
IM6 it works quite well.

You can define retrieval arguments while in syntax mode, but you cannot
paste them into your statement. You have to type them manually. Just
remember to add the colon (:) :
WHERE myfield = :my_retrieval_arg

Terry,
thank you so much for your hints.
I have tried in the graphical mode and it worked great, even with
retrieval parameters for both unionized tables.
Now I'm able to analyze financial totals from two fiscal tables using
date as retrieval parameter.
Thank you very much again!!!!

Greetings,
Eva
