Hi all - sorry for asking this probably really basic question.
However, it has proven tough for me to solve.

I am mostly using the graphic screen within a query or a report to
construct my queries for the database. I am unable to rename the
variables that I have selected from my tables. This is especially
annoying since I am linking tables to themselves in order to pull same
codes with different characteristics (year). The plain renaming in SQL
within the select statement does not work either ...

I'd appreciate any help.
Regards,
Stefan.

To rename columns, you create aliases. In the graphical query painter you
do this by creating a computed column: select the desired column followed
by a space and the new name behind it.
Example:
my_table has columns col1, col2

If you don't like the name col2 you would create a SELECT statement as
follows:
select col1, col2 my_new_name
from my_table
