Am more confused than I realized about using PSR. If a create a report
using the regular datawindow, and do a preview, and the data loads, do I
then save the file, using File/SaveAS "Powersoft Report." If so, then,
can I give my end-users access to IM, and they can click on the Report
Button, and be able to view the entire static report? As you can see,
I'm not clear at all, either about how to create a PSR, or to actually
view one. Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you. Bill...

In addition to what Boris said:

We use PSR files to take a snap shot of the data and report. It is saved
in a file. We can then send an email with this report as an attachment.
Archive it to disk. Or later print it out.

You will need Infomaker ( and a license for it) to view it. OR you can
distribute a PSR viewer to your customers. These viewers can be
distributed freely. When the recipient recieves their mail or file they
can double click on the icon (if it has and association for it) and the
report will be displayed on their computer. And they don't need to connect
to the database. The PSR file has everything it needs inside the file.

PSR contains al the data and layout of a retrieved datawindow. With
the exception of the retrieval arguments. If you want to be able to
have the retrieval argument based expressions add them to the result
set.

To save the report use File/SaveAS "Powersoft Report." The users will
be able to view the report in the Infomaker. Or you can build a
simple PSR Viewer in PowerBuilder. To display the report just assign
it as a datawindowobject

dw_report.datawindowobject = "filename.psr"

Yet another way to view the PSR report is to use the datawindow plugin
and a Browser.

Hope this helps,
