WE are creating composite reports in Infomaker 5.0 with a series of
nested reports and variable length text fields within these reports.

Then we create executables to run from icons on client desktops.

In either case the variable text fields are not resizing to include the
complete text. Also I would like to be able to specify/set page-breaks
or something like section breaks between some nested reports.

I work at UMass writing reports agains a BSR product called Advance, our
version is Sybase.

I have set the properties on the band and onthe fields for autosizing..

Help?
Thanks

You can force nested reports to pagebreak, by creating a dummy nested
report.
Create a dw using external as its datasource. Add one column to the report
. Then use rows, data to add 1 row of data to the report. Create a group
on the column with pagebreak set. Set the detail band to 0 height. Save
the report. Insert this report before the nested report you want to
pagebreak.

In answer to your first question, make sure the column's AutoSize
Height is checked (under Properties->Position) as is the band's
AutoSize Height (right-click on the detail band gray bar).

Page breaks can be accomplished by specifying that each nested report
start on a new page. Right-click on the nested report and go to
Properties. This only works for Composite reports, not Base/Nested
reports.

I am working with Base/NEst or Master/Detail reports not Composite..
passing parameters to nest...Data is not always returned for each nest
so I don't want to leave pages for blank nests..that is why I want them
to autosize and also have them 'slide' up...(which they mostly do)

but it seems that if data from variable text fields in one nest runs
longer than a page or needs to continue on next page it writes over the
headers on the next page...that is why I was wondering about the
possibility forcing breaks...

I also was curious about having a text field in the Master report be
tied to the nest and getting it to 'slide' with it?

I have made sure AUTOSIZE is on on both the columns AND the bar...this
doesn't seem to matter...Also I do not want page breaks for each
nest...but maybe some control of number of lines for detail..?
