Hi!

Happy New Year!!!!!
I have installed several reports and the user is complaining about the
length of time it takes to retrieve the data. The reports get executed
off buttons within a window. For example I want to report on one person
who has data dated from a specific date. The report consists of about
ten lines of data. The data file has about 40,000 rows. The report
promps for the date and has a drop down list for the person to be
selected.

I have indexes on the table that correspond to the sort sequence in the
report.

Any suggestions?????

Thanks, Jim

Put a trace on the report. In the executable's ini file look for the
[database] section and add the word trace to the dbms parameter: dbms=trace
odbc (or whatever driver you are using). This will give you an indication
where the time is being spent (and what the actual sql looks like). For
more analysis you'll need to use an analyze statement, which is database
specific.
