Hi, I would really appreciate some input on my problem. I need to print out
up to 2000 letters. I am using powerbuilder 5 with win95. I have an oracle
8 database. The application that I am working on is using an older version of
word to print out these letters. There needs to be some major overall to
the batch printing process. We are looking at other ways of printing these
letters.

There are fields from the database that need brought into the letters and
there is criteria used.

The user is well versed in Infomaker and uses it to make reports outside the
application using the database.

One idea that is being looked at is using a datawindow to format the letter
and bring in the fields but there is some question about memory and
resourses? The feeling is that if it is done this way the user could modify
the letter using infomaker.

How are others doing batch printing?

The reason that the users would like to move away from word is because of the
versions changing and the application not able to use the new version on the
desktop. And if we move from word the user would not necessarly have to have
word on their desktop.

Please send me your two cents worth on this.

Thanks
Catherine Lawrence

it sounds like you could use a datawindow / IM Report using the RichText
datastyle. The IM user can create the letter themselves. 2000 letters
should be no problem at all.

I have started in this direction but have hit a snag. Hopefully someone out
there has run across this and has a suggestion. I need to display the
company logo at the top of the rtf datawindow. The bitmap size is 4k. When
I put a picture control on the datawindow and try to save it I get an error
saying that the datawindow is too large to save. Could someone else put a
picture on a rtf datawindow and try to save it so I would know that it is not
just me.

Any input on this would be great. I keep thinking that this is not that
creative of an idea. It must have been done before. Thanks Catherine

That bug was fixed in IM6. I've placed several bitmaps, ranging from 3 to
20K, in a rtf report without problem.

try creating a true type font with the logo and use that instead.
