hi - help please!
we have a report that contains grouping in the report - not in the query.
the report contains donor giving history - donor name, address with lines of
detail for each donation.
we are trying to show only donors that have given over 'x' amount.
we tried to sum the gift amounts in a sub-query - that sub query would be
grouped by id in the query and have only id in the select statement.
when we try to get out of sql and into the report - all of our grouped
fields in the report get cleared.
why?
in ms-sql we are able to do this sum in the sub-query.
thanks

Hi Sharon,
I can think about solution to your problem as the following:
(1) I understand 'x' is the total amount given by an individual: I would
not create sub-query to get it, but instead I would use computed field,
invisible, placed on each detailed line of the report, that would be the
"running total". Then I would filter the report on this computed field.

(2) Second way: I would create master report that would be groupped in
the query by id, name, address, etc. and here I would calculate a field
that would be the total donation 'x'. Then I would create datawindow
report that would list all the transaction details. Next, you will
filter your main report on the donation 'x' and when records will
fulfill the criteria, you will have your main report with all
transactions as nested report - as an output.

Hope this helps.

Eva Maciasz

In the report you can filter on a computed field in the group band. Just
give it a name. Then create a filter using that computed field.

thank you for your suggestion.
ok - so i moved the computed field from the trailer band to the detail
band - and i used filter to request
field name>=1000 but i don't get any data returned to me. I know there are
donors who meet this filter criteria.
could the grouping in the report be affecting the filter function?

You don't need to move the computed field to the detail band.
After you've retrieved the data, just add the filter. There is a bug in
IM, in that you cannot hardcode this filter. If you do, the report displays
nothing, even though it retrieves the data.
