Could you provide more explicit instructions on how to install the patch. Is
it done only once? What directory do I run it from? on a client or ASE
server machine? etc...

Your DBA needs to run this (generally) before you try connecting for the
first time. that's the only time it needs to be done. It needs to be
done in ISQL.
