I've been having a problem trying to display data from my tables after
populating them with BCP.

After I run BCP, if I go into WISQL and type "SELECT * FROM table_name"
I receive the error below:

------------------
Open Client Error: ct_cmd_drop(): user api layer: external error: This
routine can be called only if the command structure is idle
------------------

Then it will display some of the rows, but not all. I'm able to go into
ISQL from the command prompt and select all the data without any errors.
I'm using Sybase System 11.0 for NT. Does anyone have any ideas why
this may be happening? Please post here, or e-mail me at
richard.klemmer@usda.gov.

Wisql always returns this error when too much rows are returned...
The open Client Version 11 has a better Windows SQL tool.

I'm glad to know it's not me. Any idea how we can get ahold of the newer
Open Client version? It's not that big a deal, but it would be a little
easier to look at a greater number of rows using the Windows version,
instead of the Command line utility.

Richard

I realise this really doesn't help very much, but I use the ISQL/W tool
that comes with Microsoft SQL server. It has so far worked on everything
up to and including 11.5, allows multiple concurrent queries on a
connection, uses a an MDI windowed interface and has succesfully
returned hundreds of thousands of rows.

Personally I feel Sybase is still a little weak on some of the client
GUI tools - Sybase Central is a little flaky and rather non-intuitive
compared with DB Artisan or the comparable tool from Microsoft. Having
said that I wouldn't use any other server product if you paid me too!!
