help again. i am having problems with one of my databases. i have been
experiencing strangeness with it, in wisql. ALWAYS when i execute the
'use blah' command, it will not change to the blah database. usually it
will work when i first execute the sp_who, and then the use command.
odd, i know. i can live with that. now when i dump the database(through
a bat file). sys_backup remains in a recv sleep status even after the
dump is completed. i browse(it says the file is in use) the log file,
and it says the dump is complete, and rc is 0. i have to down the backup
server to break this. the dump seems to be ok, although i'm leary of
loading it back. i do issue a quit command after the execute.
any suggestions?
thanks

"use" needs to be in its own batch so you need to say something like:

1>use mydb
2>go
1>sp_myproc
2>go

What server version are you using?

What are you doing to run the backup in the .bat file?

Eoin.

hi Eoin,
thanks for your response.

execute theproc
go
quit
i have a feeling that this might be space related, i'm not sure. a
backup on a separate database is hanging as well, where it did not
before. i'm trying to find an easy way to trim the errorlog.
thanks
kathryn

here's more... the backup seems to hang all the time, no matter what
database. my error log is huge, i'm wondering if space is an issue. can
i delete the old error log - with the sql server down, will a new error
log be created?

Yes, if you shut down the SQL Server and delete
the errorlog file, a new one will be created when
you restart the SQL Server.
