DEC is being very aggressive with their NT Alpha Servers lately. Since
I need to move from our SPARC 20 server (4.9.2) to ASE, would you stay
with the Solaris option or is the Alpha/NT option viable. I am
concerned about performance and reliability.

IMOSHO, if you take two identical boxes, and put NT
on one and Unix on the other, the Unix box will out
preform the NT on any test. I run two Dell Pentium2's
One with BSDI, the other with NT4.0 The NT is slower
to boot, has less free disk space, needs a re-boot
more often. Nt needs a re-boot on the average of
once a week, excluding BLUE screen's which happen
from time to time. The only re-boot for the BSDI was to
flush out a poisoned cache for DNS due to a change
with the priminary name server on that particular network.

But I come from a Unix background so I don't have
the problem with the administration of a unix server.

The question you need to ask your self, is:
"What is the rest of my orgisation doing" If the
future looks like a migration to an all M$ shop,
go with NT, but if you have a choice, I would go
with an UltraSparc and Slowlaris ;-)
