Perhaps someone can help with this problem?

I'm installing Sybase SQL Server 11.0.1.1 on a new NT Server (4.0
/sp-3). Most everything is going well, but I have one problem that I
can't seem to beat.
When we shutdown NT with a Start/Shutdown, Sybase does not shutdown
gracefully. We know this because there is no 'Shutdown requested' entry
in the Sybase errorlog and transactions are rolled forward in the next
startup of Sybase.
If I go to the NT Services screen and stop the SQL Server service, it
works as I expect putting the 'Shutdown requested' entry in the Sybase
errorlog.
This is firm requirement of my installation because we will go through
monthly UPS power-off testing which will cause NT to shutdown.

We have reinstalled Sybase and rebuild the entire server from scratch,
but the problem persists.

Please help!!

Thanks!

Bill

Try shutting down monitor server first, then sqlserver.
If it refuses, open up a connection with ssm and
tell the server to shutdown when ready... Its extra work
but better than a force down by reboot. I also use task
manager to be sure sqlserver is really not running. Sometimes
its running yet the services manager can't touch it. That is it
can't stop it and it can't start it for its already running. Usually
this happens when using syconfig without sqlserver running
first. Also I found it best to have monitor server unloaded and
sqlserver running before using using syconfig...
at least with version 11.0.1 and 11.0.2.

Hello Bill,
A simple shutdown of the NT Server will never be a "polite" shutdown for
the SQL Server.
You need to run a batch that will issue a shutdown of the SQL Server
before you power off the machine.
If there are more details here, please let me know.
