Has anyone installed sybperl onto a windows NT 4.0 computer. If you have
can you tell me do i need a C compiler ? I am trying to install Ed
Barlows sync logins perl program, that seems to be using a sybperl
module, that gives me an error when I type perl Makefile.PL.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

You need a C compiler.

I downloaded Gurusamy Sarathy's port of perl5 from
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gsar/perl5.00402-bindist04-bc.tar.gz and
installed it per the instructions.

I downloaded dmake from
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gsar/dmake-4.1-win32.zip and installed it.

I then extracted sybperl into a new directory from
http://www.perl.com/CPAN-local/authors/Michael_Peppler/sybperl-2.09_04.tar.gz,
, edited the SYBASE and BORLAND_LIBS entries as the README.win32 said and
ran:
perl Makefile.PL
dmake

then edit PWD to the appropriate values and ran:

dmake test

and the tests ran successfully.

You may need the mainstream perl (as above) rather than the ActiveState
port.
