Hi all:

I have a java applet that connects to an ASA database using JConnect
3.0. When I run the applet on the same machine that the database is
running, JConnect takes an incredibly long time to get a connection.
Sometimes as much as 3 minutes. The weird thing is that I run dbsrv in
verbose mode and I can see the driver connect and interrogate the
database (perform some queries based on what the DB supports I
suppose). I am connecting to the DB using Tds and the database is
running only TCPIP. I don't think it can be a licensing problem
because I have 5 licenses and I am only using 1.

Now here's the kicker. If I run the applet on a machine that is not
running the database, I connect with no problem.

This is very puzzling......

Chris

Try to make sure it is not a TCPIP/DNS configuration problem. Recode the
applet to connect to the IP address of your machine instead of it's name. If
this connect is fast, you have a TCP/DNS problem.
