When I use MAPI interface to launch the outlook client, after I set the
to-address programmatically and issue mailsend, the email client does not
give me a chance to fill in the text body and the email is sent
automatically. If I use Edora client, the email client will show up with
to-address filled in correctly and I can enter email text body and click on
the send manually. Any idea?

Hi Joy,

I'm don't know what version of PB you're using as for filling in the body,
I'm going to do something similar to what the PB8 examples has . There's an
example of doing mail send and an MLE control is used. In the clicked event
of the sendbutton, they set the NoteText field to what was in the MLE and
send it that way.

As for getting the email to popup before sending via, I asked Tech Support
and this is what they told me (note: there isn't a timeframe specified as to
when this enhancement would be implemented):

No, there is an open enhancement request CR (change request) # 266367 with
PowerBuilder product development for same issue.

Enhancement Description: "In PowerBuilder, using the mailSession and
mailMessage MAPI features, customer wants to open the complete mail (with
Recipients, Subject, Body, Note etc.) Default mail system (like Outlook,
Lotus etc.) before sending. So that PB application user can edit the mail in
their default mail system before sending.

Thank you. We are using 8.0.2. I will try your suggestion and see if that
will solve my problem.

If you follow the example in PB, it should work for you. That's the way I've
developed it... I either provide the user an interface to enter text or I grab
it from whereever and then stuff it in the message object and do mailsend.

Hello, Andy,

The problem is that when I insert the to address in the recipient of the
mailSession of MAPI as the code segment below, the outlook mail client
window does not popup. The outlook just sends out the email automatically.

The code that works in Eudora, but not outlook:

mRecipient.name = "jwang@studentclearinghouse.org"
mRecipient.RecipientType = MailTo!

mMsg.Recipient[2] = mRecipient
mMsg.notetext = ""

Our user wants to have the ability to fill in the custom mail message via
the outlook mail client window and manully clicks on Send.

I am thinking to use OLE method as suggested in many newsgroup postings but
I am unable to find any examples in PB code examples using OLE for email.

Thanks,
Joy

My problem is exactly the opposite. I would like Outlook to send the messge
directly, and I insert all the information in the message, but Outlook
prompts me with a message window and I have to press the "send" button. What
is the rule for this?

TIA

Hmmm, can you post a code snippet so we can see how you are getting this to

Hi, Evita,

I can not find the example you are talking about. I found an window
w_mail_send in the PB8 code examples folder and it does not have the MLE
code you mentioned in your email. Please advice.

Thanks.

The example suggests that we build a custom input box for message body. Why
we can not just force the outlook window to popup and it has all the nice
from, to, subject, etc. the user can edit or add without having to build an
interface in PB?

Joy,

As I told you earlier, I talked to Tech Support and currently it isn't
supported. There is a Change Request for it but there's no timeframe on
when they'll implement it..Sorry :-(..

Just so you know - don't try doing rich text formattting..MAPI can't handle
it either..I tried that too and found out the hard way - now I have to go
back and put back the MLE.
