In my applicaiton, it is found that dw_x.retrieve() sometimes returns -1,
however, when execute his statement again, it return the correct rowcount
retrieved.

Does anyone know the possible reasons cause dw_x.retrieve() returning -1?

The return value -1 means that
a retrieval error have occured.
There are many possible reasons
for this. You should add some
functionality to the dberror event of
the datawindow dw_x. There are some
variables explaining the error.
Handling this event should be part
of the functionality of all your datawindows.
