Hi I am trying to insert a jpg image in a richText edit control and then
saving this rtf as a blob in my
Sql DB.The saving part seems to work ok.
The issue that I am having is if I have text only ,everything works fast but
when I insert a BMP or Jpg
image in this same text evertyhing slows down in the Update or Retrieve.
from the db and also
while doing pastrtf of the blob to the control.

What I have notice is when I paste an jpg of 47 KB (original size of file)
to the RTF contol the
size of the data grows to 2MB.

The way that I determine this is as follow.

STRING LS_RICHTEXT
rte_1.selecttextall( )
ls_richtext = rte_1.CopyRTF( true, detail! )
MESSAGEBOX('LS_RICHTEXT',string(len(LS_RICHTEXT)))

The size of the string is 2113423. Quite a bit larger than what it started
47 KB.

I am using pb 8.03 Build 9704.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or is there another way of
doing this.

TIA Daniel

with the paste command.That
seem to work ok.The thing is that the image was originally 47K and now it is
over 2MB.

Hi!

PB seems to store pictures in RTF as BMP.

Try following:
1. Convert your JPG to BMP & check size of BMP.
2. Insert this BMP in RTF, save RTF & compare this RTF file size with your
file (with JPG inserted).

Daniel,

I haven't used the internal PB RTE control for a while due to a few
limitations, and because Sybase is not upgrading functionality on this as
far as I know. You could look at a couple of inexpensive third party Rich
Text controls that I have used on some projects. The tool from SubSystems
before ( www.SubSystems.Com ) worked quite well, and had great support.
Another tool is available at http://www.textcontrol.com/.

Glad you got it working. It's easier if you are able to use the built-in
functionality than plugging a third party tool in and having to keep up to
date with that as well. Of course, it's great to have the third party
plug-ins when you need that functionality ;-)
