hi,

I have a question related to exporting Sybase table to dbf structure
with ASE 11.5.x.

The Sybase bcp utility is able to export into a system file. However, it
does not mention that
it is able to export to a dbf structure. Does Sybase provide the
capability to export and import
to dbf structure (and other database format)? Or, is there any other
tool that is capable to do that?

Any method and help provided is much appreciated.

'bcp' is built for working with Sybase databases. It does not work with
non-Sybase databases (ok, ok, ok ... you may get some versions to work
with MS-SQL Server) ... in this case you're better off with the tool(s)
provided by the target database vendor or a 3rd party product. For
example, if I were trying to get data out of Sybase and into Oracle I
might use 'bcp' (Sybase utility) to get the data out of Sybase and
'sqlloader' (Oracle utility) to get the data into Oracle.

I don't have direct information on 3rd party products but there have
been several posts here in the Sybase newsgroups about folks using 3rd
party tools that provide a 'pipe' for getting data between databases ...
either search the old posts or hope someone pops in on this thread and
provides some suggestions.

Of course, it would also be convenient to know if you're looking to do
this once (e.g., switching database platforms) or if this will be an
ongoing need (e.g., replication between databases)??

Thanks Mark for your confirmation and suggestion.

The ideal solution for us is a tool/utility that can transfer data from sybase
to dbf on a regular basic on specific periods.
it will be an additional plus, if the tools has a timestamp feature whereby
data that is transferred the first time
will not be transferred.

sound like a demanding one. This will really save us from dumping the sybase
data to a text file and reload it to a dbf.
Anyone is using or come across such tool or close to it?
