I've got a problem with an insert trigger which simply makes the
following:
(simplified)
select @var1=col1,@var2=col2 from inserted

Inserting one row into the table makes the process filling up the
transaction log!
OS: NT4.0 SP5
ASE: 11.9.2.1 EBF8624(before installing the EBF it was the same problem)

What is the cause of this erroneous behaviour?

meanwhile I got the solution. It's obvisiously a Sybase-bug. Drop and
recreate of the table solved the problem. Sybase-Support said that the use
of the undocumented command "alter table drop coulmn" can cause this
behavour of a trigger!

Did you use alter table lock command earlier to change locking scheme for the
table? since there is problem 199655 associated with triggers if you execute
the following command and solution is to re-create the triggers.

When you use the command "alter table drop column" you're bound to get in
trouble, as this command is not documented or supported, i.e. it's at your
own risk. When you get problems from this, you should not consider this a
Sybase bug: it's just not supposed to work. When you search postings in the
newsgroups in the past, there'll be many references to the risks coming from
"alter table drop column".
FYI, in ASE 12.0 this command will be fully supported; until that version,
don't use it...

We didn't use this command! I just mentioned it, because sybase-support told me
this as a possible answer to this problem.

Thanks for the information.

Hello Volker,

Check for any trigger on the table where the row is inserted. In general,
this type of behavior appears when there are nested triggers involved.
