Hi all,

do anyone have any experiences with ASE 11.9.2 running under WinNT and a
dual network card?

During the startup of the sql server a error occurs:

00:00000:00002:2000/01/04 13:47:52.42 kernel NT operating system error
10108 in module
'e:\earl2\porttree\svr\sql\generic\ksource\strmio\n_winsock.c' at line
1153: FormatMessage() Error Return.
00:00000:00002:2000/01/04 13:47:52.42 kernel ninit: All master network
listeners have failed. Shutting down.
00:00000:00002:2000/01/04 13:47:52.42 kernel ueshutdown: exiting

I guess there is a misbehavior of the sql server concerning the dual
network card.

Thank you for your help,
Sven

Hi Sven,

Not really a misbehavior but a misconfiguration. Verify the ip/port
numbers you gave are valid for this machine. This is stored in your
sql.ini file.

I prefer to put the actual ip address in the sql.ini (or interfaces on
unix) file so I know exactly which ip it is trying to use.

ASE will attempt to locate the ip address with the function
gethostbyname(). If you specify the ip address, gethostbyname() will
return the same ip address. If you specify the name of the server,
gethostbyname() will return the ip address of whatever the domain name
server says it is. (I'm not sure what effect using a WINS server will have
on this)

Therefore, it is imperative to specify the ip address for systems with
multiple ip addresses (i.e. with multiple network cards)

hope this helps..

Jason
