I just installed ASE 12.0 for NT on a brand new NT server. I want to
place the exact same databases from my 11.9.2 ASE for NT server onto my
12.0 ASE for NT server.

1. Can I do this?

2. How do I do this?

Best!

Chuck,

You sure can do this, but you need to read the What's new in ASE 12.0 guide
for issues that may occur such as new reserved words, new features and
functionality, etc... You should also run update statistics and be aware of
new system tables and changes. Take a look at the What's new in ASE 12.0
Guide and then cross reference with teh Admin and P&T.

OK, all seems ok I guess, here's a brief blurb to describe what's happening:

I create devices of the same size as on 11.9.2 (data = 50, log = 25), and I
create a db for load.

the load fails and I'm told I need a db size of 115MB.

ok, so I make a new device of 65 MB, drop my db, and create for load adding this
new device

The load succeeds, BUT I got this caution:

Caution: You have set up this database to include space on disk 22 for both
data and the transaction log. This can make recovery impossible if that disk
fails.

What am I doing wrong? I have tried countless combinations of additional data
and log devices, but the caution pops up every time the load successfully
finishes. Sometimes it says it for a log device, and sometimes it says it for a
data device.

What am I doing wrong?

What can I do?

Hi Chuck,

When you create the database on the load side, it should be created with the
same order and size of data and log allocations as the database on the primary
side to avoid such warnings. To determine the original order and size, you
must look at the master..sysusages table entries for the source database, ordered
by lstart. A segmap of "3" means data, "4" means log, "7" means data+log, higher
numbers indicate use of user-defined segments.
